What we’re seeing in Palestine is a direct consequence of Euro empires never having been held accountable for their imperial violence except for tepid acknowledgments that they inflicted huge atrocities on colonized people, while hypocritically holding the moral high ground.

Today, Palestinians bear the weight of those imperial sins — not just in history books, but in the daily struggle for bread, dignity, and identity.

In this powerful image, captured by photojournalist Louyal Saeed, Elderly Palestinian men crowd around a checkpoint, clutching their identification documents — not to receive aid or food, but simply to cross. To move. To access the other side of their own land, now diced up and controlled by occupation forces. Some are going to see family. Others seek medical care. Some may just want to pray.

And yet, even that is a struggle. generations of Palestinian men wait in a line that stretches beyond geography…back into decades of imposed borders, permits, walls, and checkpoints. This is what it means to live under occupation: your freedom of movement is not a right, but a daily gamble. Your existence, constantly scrutinized, itemized, delayed.
